«Arrêtez de parler du manque de respect entre les joueurs» - Laperrière

(from CKAC Sports - 3/22/11)

Laperriere Still Helping Flyers

(from phillyBurbs.com - 3/27/11)

It's a time like this when the Flyers feel the absence of Ian Laperriere the most.

For the better part of a month, Philadelphia has been playing what might be called uninspired hockey - competing just enough to hold onto its leads in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division standings...

Solutions to NHL's Concussion Epidemic

(from The Hockey News - 4/1/11)

There are few NHLers tougher than Ian Laperriere. In fact, The Hockey News named the Flyers right winger the league's toughest player last season. He blocked a slapshot with his face. Repeat: He blocked a slapshot with his face.

However, not even Laperriere is tough enough to survive a run-in with hockey's nastiest bastard. Sidelined since last spring with post-concussion symptoms, the 37-year-old, 16-year NHL veteran is among the growing number of head-injury victims in an unenviable spotlight as the issue of concussions sets down upon the NHL like a zombie plague, threatening to devour the league's talent base...

Congratulations Lappy!

(from the Official Website of the Philadelphia Flyers - 4/6/11)

Dedication, Sportsmanship and Perseverance.

One man on the Philadelphia Flyers greatly excels in each of these categories, without even stepping on the ice for the 2010-11 season.

Ian Laperriere is the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association nominee for the NHL's Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is awarded each year to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey...

On Sunday, April 10, 2011, the It's All About Lappy team made our fourth annual appearance at the Walk For Kids, an event designed to raise funds and awareness for the services and programs provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California.

This year we were also walking in memory of one of our former teammates, my brother Chris, who passed away on December 31 at age 33.

With the help of our generous supporters, we were able to raise another $1355 for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Thanks for your contributions!

New Role for the Post-Season

Laperriere Knows He Has A Lot To Be Thankful For

(from NHL.com - 4/22/11)

There's a bit of irony in that the one-year anniversary of the worst day of Ian Laperriere's professional life falls on Good Friday.

One year ago today, Laperriere was doing the normal dirty work he excelled at during 17 NHL seasons when something horrifically abnormal happened. He dived to block a shot and the puck caught him in the face, causing a brain contusion, among other injuries, and speeding up the end of his hockey career.

A year after the gruesome injury, Laperriere doesn't display an ounce of bitterness over what happened...

CONGRATULATIONS LAPPY!!
Lappy A Masterton Finalist

(from In The Room with Anthony SanFilippo - 4/26/11)

If there was ever a deserving candidate for the Masterton Award playing in Philadelphia, it has to be Ian Laperriere.

After all he went through in the past year after blocking a shot with his face against the Devils in last season's playoffs, Laperriere has still been an integral part of the Flyers' organization both as a spokesman for the team and as a mentor to young players.

When the Philadelphia Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association discussed the possible candidates for this award, there was some concern that we couldn't come up with a deserving nominee from Philadelphia.

The problem was, we were thinking about players who were actually playing, and not the one that wasn't...
